Water jet cutter controller know idea how it works
somethings are meant to be left to experts.
Detail of full fused opaque white and clear glass.
looks simple but washing and cleaning to stop any Devitrification this is the process of crystallisation on the glass, that leaves the surface with a white scummy regular pattern.
Laying out the glass strands into the non repeat pattern, each strand has its own unique shape that doesn't repeat againthroughout the design.
This show the strands fully fused that have reached temperatures in and around 800 degree celsius to melt the glass strands together into a glass tile that can be worked further.
Cutting the outer edge to create a simple square. The water jet cutter in action takes around 10 minutes for this process.
Cold working the glass edge to give a smooth clear edge so when the piece is fire again will polish leaving and beautiful clear edge.
Thinking of colour seeing how the design would look made from coloured glass.
Cleaned once again and prepared over the slumping mould. When an item is being slumped in a kiln over a ceramic mould it must be coated with a release agent that will stop the molten glass from sticking to the mould although the temperature is a lot cooler the temptress are still around 650 degree celsius.
Once complete this design creates a light optical effect and a simple sensation of movement. The Final design that plays with the eye and also is effected by light that being made from opaque and clear glass creates shadows adding another dimension creating a simple minimal functional work of art.
